Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Deadliner collects when you use the app, why we collect it, and the choices you have — including under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who we are

Deadliner ("we", "us") is a deadline-tracking service. For the purposes of GDPR, Deadliner is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at info@deadliner.space with any question or request.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of data:

  • Account data — your name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text).
  • Deadline data — the assignments, due dates, priorities, grade weights, and tags you add, plus any deadlines shared with you through a group.
  • Billing data — if you subscribe to Deadliner Premium, our payment processor Stripe handles and stores your card details. We never see or store full card numbers.
  • Usage & device data — basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

3. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences — these can't be switched off, as the app won't function without them. With your consent (via the cookie banner shown on your first visit), we may also use optional cookies to understand how Deadliner is used so we can improve it. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage and cookies for this site, which will show the banner again.

4. How we use your information

We use your data to:

  • Provide and operate your account and the deadlines you track.
  • Send the email reminders you request ahead of a due date.
  • Process subscription payments and manage your free trial.
  • Maintain the security of the service and diagnose technical issues.
  • Improve Deadliner based on aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns.

5. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract — processing needed to provide the account and features you've signed up for.
  • Consent — for optional cookies and any marketing communications, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legitimate interest — for keeping the service secure and improving it.
  • Legal obligation — where we're required to retain billing records for tax purposes.

6. Who we share data with

We don't sell your data. We share the minimum necessary information with the following processors so Deadliner can function:

  • Stripe — payment processing for Premium subscriptions.
  • Our email delivery provider — sending deadline reminders and account emails.
  • Other students, only where you explicitly share a deadline or join a group with them.

7. Data retention

We keep your account and deadline data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep billing records for longer to comply with tax law.

8. Data security

We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls — to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

9. Your rights

If you're in the EU/EEA (or anywhere with similar data protection laws), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@deadliner.space. Account deletion is also available directly from your account settings.

10. Children's privacy

Deadliner is intended for students aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or with a notice in the app. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
